God is in the Midst of You

Many of us are faced with situations where it seems like the whole world is blowing up over our heads and there’s no help forth coming. On social media we see the “beautiful” lives others are living. On LinkedIn, you see posts like “I’m thrilled to announce that I’m starting a new position at ……”, or “I’m so excited to share that I got the scholarship to study my dream course at …..”. And when you look at the condition at home or your surrounding, nothing is pleasant enough to make you thrilled. You ask “God when?”

Psalm 46:2 explicitly explains this condition where the world blows up and the mountains crumble into the sea; where the oceans roar and foam, and the mountains tremble. Can you try to imagine the level of disaster that will occur if mountains are cast into the sea? It is unimaginable. The fatality and mortality rate will be too high. This is same with the other analogies of the oceans roaring and the world blowing up.

The Good News

Verse 4 of that scripture tells us that we are the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. Verse 5 says “God Himself is living in that city; therefore it stands unmoved despite the turmoil everywhere. He will not delay his help”. God is in the midst of you. You are unmovable. You know what that means? It means that God has filled your space with Himself, therefore since nothing can move Him, nothing can move you.

You are the city of God, He cannot run away from the city when there’s turmoil. He is not like the leaders of the world who are immediately secured and flown out of the city into a ‘safe’ haven when disaster strikes. The Lord takes full charge and does not delay His help.

What is our response to this understanding today? Rejoice! Rejoicing isn’t simply what we know or think in our hearts. It is an act. It is an intentional expression of joy. We know how kids jump and shout when they receive gifts or even told that they would receive a gift. That is our response because there is a river of joy flowing through the city of God (verse 4a). Hallelujah!
